A practical guide to overcoming perfectionism and building lasting momentum one useful step at a time.

Progress Over Perfection

Meaningful progress rarely begins with a flawless plan. It begins when you choose one useful step and take it.

Start with one useful action

Perfection can become a polished form of procrastination. Instead of asking how to finish everything, ask what useful action you can complete in the next twenty minutes.

Small steps reduce resistance, create evidence that change is possible, and give you real feedback. If you are preparing a consulting engagement, draft three discovery questions. If you want to improve the client experience, review the last five feedback notes. Make the action clear enough that you know when it is done.

Build momentum deliberately

  1. Name the outcome you want.
  2. Shrink the first step until it feels easy to begin.
  3. Choose a time to do it.
  4. Complete it before expanding the plan.
  5. Record what you learned and choose the next step.

Expect imperfect days

Momentum is not a perfect streak. Busy days and disappointing results do not erase your progress. When things go off course, ask what you can still do today to make tomorrow easier.

Measure movement

Track the actions that lead to results: conversations held, proposals sent, focused sessions completed, or client insights gathered. At the end of the week, ask what moved forward, what you learned, and what useful action comes next.

Start now

You do not need perfect confidence to begin. Confidence grows when you keep small promises to yourself. Set a timer for twenty minutes and take one useful step toward something that matters.
